Analytic Light Curves in Reflected Light: Phase Curves, Occultations, and Non-Lambertian Scattering for Spherical Planets and Moons

چکیده
We derive efficient, closed form, differentiable, and numerically stable solutions for the flux measured from a spherical planet or moon seen in reflected light, either out of occultation. Our expressions apply to computation scattered light phase curves exoplanets, secondary eclipse optical, future measurements planet-moon planet-planet occultations, as well photometry solar system bodies. our Lambertian bodies illuminated by point source, but extend them model illumination sources finite angular size rough surfaces with phase-dependent scattering. algorithm is implemented Python within open-source starry mapping framework designed efficient gradient-based inference mind. Analytic Light Curves for Planetary Transit Searches
We present exact analytic formulae for the eclipse of a star described by quadratic or nonlinear limb darkening. In the limit that the planet radius is less than a tenth of the stellar radius, we show that the exact light curve can be well approximated by assuming the region of the star blocked by the planet has constant surface brightness. We apply these results to the Hubble Space Telescope o...
متن کاملWhite Dwarf Light Curves: Constraining Convection and Mode Identification Using Non-sinusoidal Light Curves
In this paper we show how the formalism of Wu & Goldreich developed for weakly nonlinear white dwarf pulsations can be extended to the fully nonlinear case. Due to the computational simplification this affords over the simulations of Brickhill (1992a) and Ising & Koester (2001), we are able to obtain the first ever fits of observed light curves. These fits allow us to obtain not only mode ident...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Burst Afterglow: Polarization and Analytic Light Curves
GRB afterglow polarization is discussed. We find an observable, up to ∼ 10%, polarization, if the magnetic field coherence length grows at about the speed of light after the field is generated at the shock front. Detection of a polarized afterglow would show that collisionless ultrarelativistic shocks can generate strong large scale magnetic fields and confirm the synchrotron afterglow model. N...
متن کاملPhase light curves for extrasolar Jupiters and Saturns
We predict how a remote observer would see the brightness variations of giant planets similar to those in our Solar System as they orbit their central stars. We model the geometry of Jupiter, Saturn and Saturn’s rings for varying orbital and viewing parameters. Scattering properties for the planets and rings at wavelenghts 0.6-0.7 microns are assumed to follow these observed by Pioneer and Voya...
متن کاملTerrestrial Exoplanet Light Curves
The phase or orbital light curves of extrasolar terrestrial planets in reflected or emitted light will contain information about their atmospheres and surfaces complementary to data obtained by other techniques such as spectrosopy. We show calculated light curves at optical and thermal infrared wavelengths for a variety of Earth-like and Earth-unlike planets. We also show that large satellites ...
